May 23, 2020 Rosedale Pub Night CANCELLED.

Rosedale Community Hall Playground CLOSED

Effectively immediately, all playgrounds in Calgary are not to be used. This includes the playgrounds at City parks, and all community associations. This is to reduce the spread of COVID-19 via playground equipment surfaces.  Signs will be posted by Calgary Parks in the next day or so, along with yellow caution tape.  For the time being skateparks will remain open however social distancing and capacity guidelines should be followed.

Rosedale Community Hall is CLOSED until further notice!

Until further notice, all programs and meetings at the Rosedale Community Hall are cancelled. The Hall is now closed.

COVID-19 and Rosedale Community Hall

Rosedale Community Hall Visitors:
RE:  COVID-19

The Calgary Rosedale Community Association Board of Directors has been receiving many COVID-19 updates from our City of Calgary representative and the Federation of Calgary Communities.  We thought it appropriate at this time to share some thoughts regarding the Community Hall.

As you know, the Community Hall is a very busy place with many people coming and going all day and evening.  For your convenience, two hand sanitizer stations have been installed this week at the hall (one in the main foyer and one on the second floor landing outside Beugin Hall) in the hopes of reminding everyone that we all need to do our part to help stop the spread of this virus.  We also thought it appropriate to mention that there are some basic things each one of us can do during these difficult times.

  • Remember that hand washing is your best defense against the spread of germs.
  • Use a tissue when you cough or sneeze; sneeze into your sleeve if a tissue is not available.
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose or mouth with unwashed hands.
  • Avoid shaking hands.
  • Please stay home if you are not feeling well, especially if you have a fever, are coughing or sneezing or are experiencing shortness of breath.
  • If you have concerns related to viral illnesses, potential exposures, advice regarding isolation procedures and testing or specific concerns regarding COVID-19, please contact Alberta Health Link at 811 for health advice.
  • You can find more information related to COVID-19 on the Alberta Health Services website at www.albertahealthservices.ca

North Hill Communities Local Growth Planning Project Update – March, 2020

The North Hill Local Area Plan and the Guidebook for Great Communities were both presented to the Special Committee on Planning and Urban Development (PUD) on March 4th and approved to continue to Council for a first reading, presently scheduled for April 27th. Rosedale is part of North Hill Communities in this initiative. Through the local growth planning process, the city is creating a future vision for how land could be used and redeveloped in the area building on the vision, goals and policies outlined in Calgary’s Municipal Development Plan and the Guidebook. North Hill was the pilot area and Plans are underway for Westbrook and Elbow Park/Britannia, among others. These Plans aim to increase density over time and potentially will drive zoning changes to the Land Use Bylaw which could affect all areas in the city. We hope you have taken the time to investigate these further and, although they are large and complex documents, it is important to have a look and be informed.

If you want to submit comments for the Council Meeting, you can do so by submitting letters referencing PUD2020-0164 to cityclerk@calgary.ca or by using the online form https://forms.calgary.ca/content/forms/af/public/public/public-submission-to-city-clerks.html . Citizens can watch sessions live online and are welcome to present in person to Council as well. The agenda has not yet been published online and, with restrictions on public meetings because of COVID-19, the Council Meeting could be deferred or it may not be open to the public. Please check the City of Calgary websites and Rosedale’s social media and emails for updates.

Parking Guidelines – Rosedale Community Hall

Access to parking for users of the Rosedale Community Hall is often a challenge. The Rosedale Community Association Board of Directors (RCA) is asking all Hall users to respect the suggested guidelines outlined below.

Pay attention to Street Parking Restrictions

  • Street Parking on 11th Ave is limited to 2 hours between 8:00 – 17:00 on Mondays – Fridays.
    • Only vehicles with valid parking permits (electronically linked to license plates) are permitted to stay beyond the time limits stated.
    • Parking on 9th St is restricted to 1 hour between 8:00 – 21:00 on Monday – Friday.  Parking on 7A Street is restricted to 1 hour between 8:00 – 17:00 Monday to Friday.
  • Parking in the alley is prohibited unless a vehicle has an F permit.
  • The streets adjacent to the Centre are School and Playground speed zones of 30 km/hr.

Daytime Users

During the daytime, there is competing parking demand from Hall users, SAIT students, and school parents.  School dismissal at 3:00 – 3:30pm is where the parking demands overlap the most. This short time interval can be very chaotic as one-half of the school students must exit along 11th Ave NW.  The situation becomes dangerous on poor weather days when there are more cars picking up students and more traffic. Parking on the grass along the lane west of the community centre increases the chaos and safety risk.

The RCA is working with the Calgary Parking Authority to address the parking overstays by SAIT students and will work through concerned school parents and the School to address pick up traffic safety.  There are also several actions that the users of the Community Hall can follow that will significantly diminish the safety risk for students and free up parking spots. Please consider these options:

  • Car pool as much as possible, especially for larger groups.
  • Use 11th Ave NW Street parking first.
  • Grass parking is only for overflow cases where street parking is full.
  • If overflow parking must be used, park on the East Field grass first and the West Grass area only if East Grass area full.  Angle park with the rear bumper completely off the lane and onto the grass.
  • There is a crosswalk in the middle of 11th Avenue.  Please ensure that the ‘no parking zones’ in front and behind the crosswalk are adhered to as directed by the signs.  This becomes especially important during school pick up and drop off times.
  • If your event finishes at 3:00pm, please adhere to your exit time. If you would prefer, talk to the Rosedale Rental Coordinator about changing the time of your meeting to make an earlier departure from the Hall.
  • If you had to use the West Lane overflow parking, please do not leave within the 3:15 – 3:30 PM time period when the school traffic is at its highest level. Depart by 3 PM or wait until after 3:30 PM.

Evening & Weekend Users

During evenings and on weekends, the RCA is asking all hall users to refrain from parking on the grass and avoid driving down the alleys, if at all possible.  This request is being made as a courtesy to our neighbours living along the lanes and as a reminder that many young children frequent the park and playground and their safety is of utmost importance. If 11th Ave parking fills up because of a large event at the Hall, please remember that additional spots are available along 9th St adjacent to the school and along 7A St.

Thank you for your consideration of these Parking Guidelines for the Rosedale Community Hall.
